WEEK 4 POST
The author of this article brings to world attention the issues of inequality that still exist in the literary world, that hinder women from being truly recognized as accomplished writers. The literary world is still very much an "old boys clubs" as seen by the lack of women in the NYRB(New York Review of Books). There have been countless female authors who have written great books, but their achievements have been by-passed by the hierarchy of this increasingly male dominated industry. I believe it is wholly unbelievable that even in the 21st century, gender barriers still bind women from reaching their true potential, even in the androgynous literary field.

ReplyDeleteI can’t believe this is still going on too, especially in this day and age. Women can do just as good as men especially when it comes to writing. Women can probably express their emotions and feeling better then a man can, so why are women not getting the recognition or the credit. Hopefully this issue can eventually end in the future, and the world can all be equal.
ReplyDeleteI definitely think that equality should be shown in all aspects of life. I think that the New York Review of Books should not know who wrote what they're reading before they critique it. I think the only way to take bias out of their reviews is for them not to know who wrote what and focus just on the talent of the writers.
ReplyDeleteThis is shocking to hear for myself because as far as I was concerned, women authors were just as equal and successful as men. Many great books have been written by females, and many by males, therefore it is hard for me to comprehend how it is possible for women to be looked down upon as writers.
